Visions Camp

Visions Camp is a non-profit organisation which runs a one-week sleepaway camp every August for adolescents ages 13 to 18. Visions is a camp like no other, and gives teenagers the opportunity to spend the week doing things that make them forget to check their phone. A break from city life, a typical day at Visions starts off with a few early rising staff members driving around the campsite blasting music to wake everyone up and make sure they start their day off smiling! We then get ready for a day filled with laughter, making new friends and personal growth.

Some of the programs up at camp include music, led by the very talented song writer, singer and member of the band Oliver Forest. We also have small group meet-ups twice a day where we watch cool videos, laugh at skits prepared by staff, and spend time getting to know each other. Small groups provide campers with the time to pause, reflect, and share, and think about what they'd like their next year to look like! Recreation is our time to run around, play crazy games like the Amazing Race, and get everyone active. Campers have the chance to participate in workshops all week as well; including boxing, yoga/meditation, nature/hiking, among others! Of course we also just have a lot of fun during and in between all of those scheduled programs. Waterfront, beach days, dance parties- it’s an amazing week filled with awesome connections, personal development, and great memories to carry our campers through the year.

Facilities

We use the facilities of the famed Camp Kinkora (3 stars rating by Quebec Tourism!). Camp Kinkora is situated in the Laurentians near Ste-Agathe in St-Adolph d'Howard. For over 75 years, the campsite has hosted various camps which provide an opportunity for thousands of families in financially difficult situations to benefit from more than "just a vacation". While on site, campers are housed in fully winterised cabins, each with toilet and shower facilities. Other facilities on site include a dining and recreation hall, miles of hiking trails, and a private lake.

The camp is run by dynamic, fun, committed, and motivated staff members composed of young professionals who volunteer a week of their time to give teenagers the wonderful experience of Visions. Our staff is made up of childcare workers, entrepreneurs, legal researchers, students, among others. Campers are supervised at all times by our trained staff, and there is a minimum ratio of 1 staff to 7 campers on site at all times.

Testimonies

"I always knew that I wanted to be a Visions camper, as I'd heard so much about it from friends and family who'd attended in the past. My first summer was amazing. I never thought I would have so much in common with so many people of different ages and backgrounds."

"I felt at home on my first day - the counselors and campers were so enthusiastic and welcoming, it really felt as though I'd been going for years."

"Visions gave me great memories and confidence to tide me over until the next year's session. By the time the summer rolled around, I was counting down the days 'till I'd see my camp friends again, and the second year didn't disappoint."

Donations

Visions camp has been operating in Montreal since 1981 and is part of DCA (Diocesan Camping Association) and associated with the Foundation of Catholic Community Services (FCCS) of Montreal. Our staff is made up entirely of volunteers who create, plan and run a full week of activities for youth between the ages of 13 to 18. For some of them Visions Camp will be the only chance they get to enjoy a summer outing.

The costs associated to running the camp can reach the amount of $25,000 to $30,000 for the week. These expenses directly affect the fees we charge our campers. In order to keep the costs as low as possible for our targeted clientele, we are asking for donations which can be made in the form of money and/or office supplies and other materials used for our wide range of activities.

Furthermore, to help subsidize teenagers who cannot afford the full sum for the week, our staff is actively seeking corporate and personal donations. Should you be interested in helping Visions camp, we are able to issue tax receipts for any monetary donations made. Our priority is to serve teenagers, who come from low-income families as to allow them this camping experience. Please contact us for any further information.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and continued support to change the lives of today's youth,
Visions Camp Staff
